March 16 - 22, 2026
Check out the Baviaans Canyon Trail website.
The Baviaans Canyon Trail is a 5-day slackpacking hike through the Baviaanskloof world heritage site. An untouched piece of South African wilderness made accessible through a partnership with Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism.
As a slackpacking route, we will only need to carry a daypack and our supplies will be shuttled for us between the glamping pods we will be staying in each night.
There are exactly 12 slots available, so if you are interested in joining this part of the trip please let me know ASAP!
Transport will be provided from the Port Elizabeth / Gqeberha airport to the start of the trail on March 16th, and from the end of the trail to the next stop in Stellenbosch on the 22nd.
Please read the trail website to get an idea of how to prepare. At minimum you will need to bring:
Good hiking shoes/boots (ankle protection is recommended)
A daypack as well as larger bag for the items that will be shuttled between campsites
Water bottles with capacity for at least 2l of water
A sleeping bag or sheet and blanket
Food will be provided, but do bring snacks, drinks, etc.
